The European Commission has proposed that 2021 should be the European Year of Railways to support the implementation of the European Green Deal goals in the area of transport. In 2021, a series of events, campaigns and initiatives will promote rail as a sustainable, innovative and safe way of transport. These events will highlight the benefits for people, the economy and the climate. They will also highlight the issues that still need to be resolved in order to create a true single European borderless railway area.
